FARE is collaborating with Solid Starts to review the latest guidelines on food allergy prevention, risk factors for food allergy development, infant readiness to start solid foods, and actionable steps to implement these guidelines. The 3-part webinar will be presented by an allergist, occupational therapist, and a registered dietitian from the Solid Starts Team and FARE.  

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the latest guidelines on food allergy prevention and identify risk factors for food allergy development
  • Determine infant’s readiness to begin solid food introduction
  • Review practical steps to introduce food allergens to infant using baby-led weaning techniques

About the Speakers

Sakina Bajowala, MD, FAAAAI

Sakina Bajowala

Dr. Bajowala is a mother of two and a board-certified adult and pediatric allergist and immunologist with a passion for patient education and advocacy. She specializes in the evaluation and management of food allergy, and is a best-selling author on the topic. In her private allergy practice, she helps her young patients overcome food allergies through precision-focused sublingual and oral immunotherapy. In her part-time position at Solid Starts, Dr. Bajowala reviews content for evidence-based accuracy, analyzes allergy data and trends, and is a trainer for Solid Starts PRO.

Kim Grenawitzke, OTD, OTR/L, SCFES, IBCLC, CNT

Kim Grenawitzke

Specializing in infant and child feeding, eating, and swallowing, Kim has spent the majority of her career in pediatric acute care at some of the largest children's hospitals on the west coast, focusing specifically on neonatal (NICU) feeding and swallowing, breastfeeding with high-risk infants, and infant/pediatric cardiac rehabilitation. In addition to her hospital-based work, Kim has worked with families struggling with breastfeeding, transitioning to solids, selective/picky eating, tube weaning, and oral motor/chewing. Kim is a mom of two in Michigan.

Tiffany Leon, RD, MS

Tiffany

As FARE’s Assistant Director of Training and Professional Programs, Tiffany supports the development of educational materials and training programs for key target audiences including registered dietitians or other healthcare professionals, commercial foodservice operators and of course, those with food allergies! Tiffany came to FARE from Georgetown University where she worked in dining services to help students with dietary restrictions navigate their dining options, served as a voice for the students during menu development, and provided food safety training to the campus dining staff. Prior to that she was at a private nutrition and research firm that tailored holistic nutrition programs to boost physical and mental performance. She has been a Registered Dietitian for 11 years and earned degrees from James Madison University and Columbia University. She lives in Maryland, with her family and dog, Maggie.
