Food Allergy Research & Education Welcomes Helen Jaffe and Robert Rich to Board of Directors
McLEAN, Va. (Jan. 25, 2016) – Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), the nation’s leading nonprofit organization working on behalf of the 15 million Americans with food allergies, is pleased to announce the election of Helen Jaffe and Robert L. Rich to its Board of Directors.
Helen Jaffe, together with her husband David, was recently honored by FARE at the 19th Annual Food Allergy Ball for her longstanding support and commitment to the food allergy community. The Jaffe family is one of the founding members of the Food Allergy Initiative, one of FARE’s legacy organizations. Robert Rich is an early internet entrepreneur and e-commerce executive. Allergic to peanuts since childhood, Rich brings his personal experiences with life-threatening anaphylaxis to the Board.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Helen and Rob to the Board of Directors. Helen’s work on behalf of children with food allergies has spanned more than two decades, and Rob will bring his critically important perspective as an adult managing food allergies to the Board. We are very much looking forward to working together to realize FARE’s vision of a world that is safer for people living with life-threatening food allergies,” said Janet Atwater, chair of FARE’s Board of Directors.
FARE’s Board of Directors is comprised entirely of individuals with personal connections to food allergy – either as a parent or as an adult with food allergy.
“As a parent of four children managing life-threatening food allergies, and one of the founding families of the Food Allergy Initiative now known as FARE, it is an honor to join the FARE Board to help improve the quality of life for food allergic individuals and to provide hope through the promise of new treatments,” Jaffe said.
“I am grateful that we have an organization like FARE, dedicated to developing treatments to prevent life-threatening allergic reactions, advocating on our behalf, and generating public awareness about the seriousness of food allergies. I am proud to join the Board of FARE,” Rich said.
