Food Allergy Research & Education Awards $100,000+ to Support Local Initiatives Across U.S.
2018 Community Outreach Awards Fund 42 Education and Awareness Programs
McLEAN, Va. (March 22, 2018) – Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) is pleased to announce the funding of more than 40 projects led by volunteers who are working to educate their communities and improve food allergy awareness and safety locally. Through FARE’s annual Community Outreach Awards, volunteers will receive more than $104,000 to support these initiatives.
As the leading national advocacy group dedicated to food allergy, FARE has worked collaboratively with volunteers across the country for many years and established the Community Outreach Awards to support high-impact programs in local communities. In 2018, FARE will be funding educational conferences, school trainings, Teal Pumpkin Project® community events, food-free Easter egg hunts, awareness events, including those that tie in with FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk, and the distribution of educational materials to schools, libraries, businesses and healthcare providers.
Taking place in 25 states and Mexico, the programs are led by food allergy support group leaders and Food Allergy Heroes Walk volunteer chairs who work tirelessly to educate the public about the severity of food allergy, promote inclusivity for all those affected and provide forums to connect families with each other in a supportive environment.
“Every day, dedicated volunteers are making a positive impact in the lives of families managing food allergies. Whether organizing a regional conference to empower parents or coordinating training for schools, they are delivering critically needed information in communities from coast to coast, and we are proud to amplify these important efforts.” said James R. Baker, Jr., MD, CEO of FARE. “Thanks to our generous donors and the funds raised each year through FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk, we are pleased to give back to local communities with this important initiative.”
The Community Outreach Awards program includes a peer-reviewed application process. Proposals are reviewed by a selection committee, and awards are based on community need, impact and benefit, and demonstration of collaboration. This year, FARE also awarded more than $11,000 in stipends to 30 FARE-recognized support groups across the country and Mexico to assist with operational expenses.
