FARE Named "Non-Profit Grassroots Organization of the Year" By Campaigns & Elections

April 26, 2023 (McLean, VA) – FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education), the nation’s leading non-profit organization engaged in food allergy advocacy, and the largest private funder of food allergy research, is proud to announce that FARE has won a coveted Reed Award “Non-Profit Grassroots Organization of the Year” for its outstanding advocacy efforts to ensure the nation’s more than 32 million American food allergy voices are heard in both Washington, D.C. and at state capitals across the country.

The Reed Awards, named after Campaigns & Elections founder Stanley Foster Reed, recognize excellence from the preceding year in political campaigning, campaign management, political consulting, political design, grassroots and advocacy. This year’s winners, which represent the very best the political campaign and advocacy industries have to offer, were named at The Reed Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, NV on March 28th. FARE shared the 2023 Reed Award with Corazón Latino.

Considered “The Most Exacting Award in Political Campaigning,” the Reed Award recognizes FARE’s long-standing dedication to making significant change in food allergy legislation at the local, state and national levels. FARE’s advocacy results from last year include:

  • Waged two successful appropriations efforts – securing $10 million in new federal investments for the food allergy community and nearly doubling the budget for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) CoFAR (Consortium of Food Allergy Research) from $6.1 million to $12.1 million;
  • Helped pass four state and local laws benefitting 2.9 million food allergy families;
  • Led development of Food Allergy Collaborative submission toward the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health that resulted in two mentions of food allergy related to food labeling and research in the White House’s national strategy; and
  • Recruited an additional 16,121 grassroots advocates.

FARE would like to recognize and thank our amazing and hard-working advocacy team:

  • Jason Linde, Senior Vice President of Government & Community Affairs,
  • Robert Earl, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, and
  • Joe Kalmin, Senior Director of Government Affairs.
