FARE Cover Note regarding the FA Collaborative Report on the WH Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health
Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), as a member of the Food Allergy Collaborative, is honored to have submitted comments about the needs of the food allergy community and contributed policy recommendations about food allergy education, management, treatment, and prevention toward the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. The Conference will be scheduled for the Fall of 2022.
The first and only White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, and Health was held in 1969, but its influence positively changed the nation’s food policy agenda for the next 50 years. This year’s Conference will “catalyze the public and private sectors around a coordinated strategy to accelerate progress and drive transformative change in the U.S. to end hunger, improve nutrition and physical activity, and close the disparities surrounding them.”
The Food Allergy Collaborative is a group of advocacy organizations, individuals with food allergies, and industry partners who strive to advance effective, patient-centered initiatives in food allergy awareness, research, and care. As such, the members recognize the significance of the White House Conference and that the needs of the food allergy community must be integrated into its outcomes and policy recommendations.
The White House Conference Pillars include:
- Pillar 1 – Improve food access and affordability
- Pillar 2 – Integrate nutrition and health
- Pillar 3 – Empower all consumers to make and have access to healthy choices
- Pillar 4 – Support physical activity for all
- Pillar 5 – Enhance nutrition and food security research.
FARE is inspired and hopeful that food allergy issues will receive the recognition they deserve in relation to overall hunger prevention, and improvement of nutrition and health in America.
