FARE and GMA Support National Framework to Address Allergen Labeling

McLean, Va. (Aug. 26, 2019) – Today, Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), and the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) announced that the organizations will work together to address the need for federal, uniform standards for allergen labeling.

“There is an urgent need for improved allergen labeling guidelines to ensure there is clarity and consistency so that people with food allergies can shop with confidence and without unnecessary risk to their health,” said FARE CEO Lisa Gable.

A national, uniform allergen labeling policy, determined at the federal level, is of critical importance to protecting the public health of the 32 million Americans with food allergies.

“The consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry recognizes the importance of proper allergen labeling and the confusion state-by-state labeling requirements cause for millions of Americans. We look forward to working collaboratively with key stakeholders in the community and industry to address the issue at the federal level,” said GMA President and CEO Geoff Freeman.
