FARECheck Instructor Training (FIT)

This two-part course will give you all the knowledge and materials you need to train your food service staff on safe food handling for the growing number of individuals with life-threatening food allergies. It was originally designed for food service individuals working in educational settings from pre-K through college. FARE recently expanded this training to other food service locations, including soup kitchens and hospitals. Those who successfully complete FIT will become FARE-recognized instructors and eligible to deliver FARE-owned training to their food service staff.
Flexible and Cost-Effective Way to Train Your Staff
Completion of this course provides you with the flexibility to deliver training to your staff when and where you want. No additional fees required. Staff who participate in your training are eligible to receive a FARECheck certificate of training upon passing a final exam.
The FIT course includes:
Part 1: A live, two-hour instructor led virtual course. The next class is scheduled for November 12, 2024, at 12:00 p,m. - 2:00 p,m. ET.
The course will prepare you to deliver FARE food service training.
- Strategies for being an effective trainer for in person and virtual sessions
- Why this matters to food service professionals
- Food allergy 101
- Recognizing and responding to a food allergy reaction
- Ingredient accuracy
- Reducing the risk for cross-contact
- Communicating about food allergies
Part 2: Becoming a FARE-Recognized Instructor
- Upload a recording of you delivering this workshop using a sample facilitator guide
- Complete the online assessment
- FARE Staff will review, provide feedback and approve you as a FARECheck Trainer!
Upon approval, you will receive:
- A FIT Trainer Certificate
- Full workshop materials for delivery to your food service staff/teams including a Facilitator Guide, Certified PowerPoint file, Posters, Handout templates and more
- Access to the link for final exams and training certificates of your future participants

FIT Scholarship
If you work in a setting with an underserved population, you qualify for a scholarship covering 100 percent of the class tuition. This includes, but is not limited, to Title I school districts or soup kitchens.
