Food Allergy Awareness Week helps shine a light on food allergy as a serious public health issue that affects 15 million Americans. In 2017, Food Allergy Awareness Week reached millions of people around the United States and beyond through FARE’s Food For Thought videos, social media, building lightings, news stories, and local outreach from volunteers like Lana.  

“Food Allergy Awareness Week and FARE mean so much to my family. When our older son was diagnosed with life-threatening food allergies, FARE became our lifeline. FARE was, and continues to be, a constant resource of information and support both on and informative level as well as an emotional level. After our second son was born, we made it our mission to be involved with FARE and educate our community around us. Over the past 14 years, my sons, my husband and I have participated in many events with FARE such as luncheons and my son’s bat mitzvah project which raised $14,000 for the Ridgewood Food Allergy Heroes Walk. For the past three years, during Food Allergy Awareness Week we have continued educating the staff and children at their school on what’s it like to have food allergies and how to Be A PAL®. Being a mom, especially with two children with food allergies, takes a village! And FARE has been and continues to be my village!” - Lana Platin
