Statement from Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE on Mars' New Campaign to Increase Consumption of Snickers Bars on Flights
"Mars is igniting a tinderbox of potential dangers for food allergy patients with its new Snickers bar campaign. An airplane already represents a heightened risk for food allergy patients, with no access to emergency care, trained medical personnel, or life-saving epinephrine autoinjectors. Added to that, flight attendants are not trained to recognize anaphylaxis, and often are unaware that a reaction is a life-threatening emergency. FARE urges Mars to abandon this campaign so that you don't further endanger the lives of the more than 33 million people in the US with the disease of food allergy. This campaign is more than tone deaf, it could potentially be deadly."
