Just because a product was safe the last time you purchased it doesn’t mean the ingredients have stayed the same! It is very important to read all labels all of the time. The following food manufacturers have recently worked with FAAN to provide you with information about changes in their products.

A representative of George Weston Bakeries has notified FAAN about the following changes to their Entenmann’s products.

Amy’s Kitchen would like to announce that its “Broccoli & Cheese Pocket Sandwich” has been reformulated to include sunflower seed meal. Consumers will find the addition of sunflower seed meal in the ingredient statement and in the bolded allergen information below the ingredient declaration. The new formula may also be identified by the statement “New! Whole Wheat Crust” on the front of the package.

The Sara Lee Company would like you to know that starting on April 10, 2008, Sara Lee Wheat Hamburger Buns and Sara Lee Wheat Hot Dog Buns will contain butter. The ingredient statement will include this change and will also list “milk” in the “contains” statement. The redesigned labels will include the “Soft & Smooth™” name on the package.

February A representative of the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company has notified FAAN that peanuts will be introduced to their manufacturing facility.
The packages of products that share a common line with peanuts will state the following: “Manufactured on the same equipment that also makes products containing peanuts, tree nuts, and milk.”
The packages of products that do not share a common line with peanuts will state the following: “Made in a facility that uses peanuts and tree nuts.”

A representative of Kraft Foods North America, Inc., has provided the following announcement:
Beginning in January 2008, “Planters Chocolate Covered Cashews” and “Planters Chocolate Covered Peanuts” will be manufactured on equipment that also processes products containing soy and wheat. The possible presence of soy and wheat will be declared in the ingredient statement on the product label.
The new product packaging for Planters Chocolate Covered Cashews will include the following allergen information statement: “Manufactured on equipment that processes peanut, other tree nuts, soy, wheat.” The new product packaging for Planters Chocolate Covered Peanuts will include the following allergen information statement: “Manufactured on equipment that processes soy, tree nuts, wheat.” Please continue to read all labels before every purchase for current allergen information. McKee Foods Corporation would like to notify FAAN members of changes in two products:
1. Little Debbie multipack and single-serve Pecan Spinwheels will soon be manufactured with milk. There will be a time when the product with milk and the product without milk are on grocer shelves at the same time. The carton graphics, however, will be different. Please read the ingredients closely.
2. Sunbelt multipack Crunchy Oats and Honey Granola bars will be manufactured on equipment with products containing milk and eggs. The possible presence of milk and egg will be communicated in a “may contain” statement that follows the ingredient listing.
A representative of Arby’s wishes to notify FAAN members that Arby’s restaurants are now nationally promoting “Cheesecake Poppers” as dessert items. Cheesecake Poppers are known to contain the following major food allergens: eggs, milk, soy, and wheat. Peanuts and tree nuts are not among the ingredients in Cheesecake Poppers. However, Arby’s has been informed by its supplier that Cheesecake Poppers may contain peanuts and/or tree nuts, because the cheesecake component of the product is manufactured in a separate facility in which those allergens are present. Arby’s promotion of Cheesecake Poppers is currently scheduled to run from November 2007 through January 2008. The product is expected to be fully depleted by the end of February 2008.
